PERSONALITY PROFILE — PART 3

Deborah Rings, the recently appointed Plunket Nurse for the Waimarino, has settled in well and is thoroughly enjoying her new duties. Originally from Wellington, where she trained at Wellington Hospital, Deborah, after graduation, married Noel Rings and moved to Palmerston North, where she worked in the intensive care and coronary care wards. In 1980, her husband, a soldier, was transferred to Christchurch where she worked asa doctor's nurse, gaining experience which

has stood here in good stead for her new duties. Another posting in 1981 — to Singapore — gave Deborah her first opportunity to work entirely with youngsters, this time as a kindergarten teacher. She worked part time in this position until her husband was brought back to Waiouru Camp, where as a sergeant he is responsible for cadet training. On her return, Deborah gave serious thought to hei career and it was then she saw an advertisement fox applications from registered general and obstetric nurses or registered community nurses interested in moving into the plunket nursing field. She applied and was accepted for training at Palmerston North, a course that took her four months. After receiving her diploma in June of this year she immediately began work, replacing a nurse who had been travelling from Wan-

ganui every week. She now works two and a half days a week travelling throughout the Waimarino and currently sees 96 babies regularly. Initially she found it difficult

geographically but it did not take her long to settle in and become an integral part of many mothers' lives. In her very limited spare time, Deborah enjoys sewing, knitting and jazzercise.
