Devaluation 'brave move' say farmers
The incoming Labour Government's decision to devalue the New Zealand dollar was welcomed by Federated Farmers earlier this month. The Federation's acting president, Mr Peter Elworthy, described the announcement as "decisive and courageous." It was a "brave move to take a tight grip on the economy," he said. But Federated Farmers saw devaluation as just one of a range of moves necessary to control inflation. "Our industry will be looking to see the impetus gained by this move will not be lost by delays in further necessary measures," Mr Elworthy said.
