FACING UP

If one were to sum up the basic philosophy of Christianity in one word, that word would be GIVING. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." Man knows that to be healthy spiritually and psychologically, and thus physically, i he ,'must be a caring, loving — in a word

GIVING soul. Some psychologists tell us altruistic people are happier people and tend to have better health. But then, they would seem to be in tune with the divine. "Remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, it is more blessed to give than to receive," one reads in the book of Acts. The Bible writes of the *giving' act in many and varied ways; It is so basic t-o Christianity. St James writes in his Epistle: "Show me your faith apart from your works, and I by my works will show you my faith." In the letter to the Hebrews; "To do good, and to distribute, forget not; for with such sacrifices God is pleased." A Christian gives. It is basic to his religion. A person who cannot or will not give has missed the entire meaning of Christianity, the entire meaning of life. Indeed, Christianity and life are one and the same. Some call it THE WAY.
