Conditions perfect for opening of season
Weather conditions could not have been better for the opening day of the ski season last Wednesday. Although the bottom half of the mountain could do with another good fall, ski operators at.AHI Turoa are delighted the season is underway, the company's public relations manager Andy Chapman says. Over 400 people, including himself, took advantage of Wednesday's great skiing conditions at Turoa, he says.
On Thursday 800 skiers were on the slopes. By Thursday afternoon the phones at the AHI Information Centre were running hot with enquiries for the weekend's conditions, he says. Skiing midweek was confined to the top half of the Giant Chairlift with limited ski lanes, but by the weekend AHI hoped to have the Jumbo or High Noon Tbar open and the full facilities sometime next week.
