SIMONS LABOUR PARTY

"How will it effect me?" — this is a question I am often asked when putting the Labour Party policies to the King Country electorate. An area with such potential tourism resources is ripe for sensible develop-

ment and Labour is eager to assist. f Tourism has been identified by the Labour Party as a real growth area which can quickly and effectively create new jobs and conserye overseas funds. A Labour Government will give a realistic budget to market New Zealand as a peaceful land with a clean environment, nuclear free and with good wholesome foods. Our tourism and visitor policy specifically earmarks tourism in the regions: • Labour will help local and regional authorities to develop tourist attractions in the region. • The present restrictions on local government involvement in Tourist facilities will be removed. • Tourist projects in regional development areas will qualify for regional development assistance. Tongariro Forest is undoubtedly a local tourist attraction, especially when looked at alongside Tonga - riro National Park, Whakapapa and Turoa skifields and the Wanganui River National Park.
