Dangerous corner claims another unwary victim

This White 1982 Datsun Bluebird station wagon failed to take the sharp corner at the junction of Burns Street (between Parklands Dairy and Ohakune Transport) as it was entering Ohakune from the north at 11.50 last Tuesday morning.

The car which was being driven by 21-year old John Moffatt a traveller from St Heliers in Auckland slid across the road and struck the rear wheels. of a truck trailer unit being driven by Deny Kete of the Mangorei Freezing Company iii New Plymouth who was travelling

in the opposite direction. Mr Moffatt who was wearing a seatbelt suffered a broken nose and other injuries to his body and was admitted to hospital for treatment. Mr Kete was not injured. According to police Mr Moffatt's injuries could have been a lot more serious had his car struck the trailer under the main chassis beam between the front and back axles, instead of hitting one of the rear wheels. Had the impact taken place a fraction of a second earlier the whole top of the Datsun Bluebird would have been sheared off.
