Racing with BULLY

This Saturday sees the beginning of Wellington's winter meeting at Trentham and of course this means the Wellington Steeples and the big hurdle race. It would appear that the chasers were just sorting themselves out up here in the North Island and last week at Hastings along comes Te Haroto from Washdyke in the deep south and slays our hopefuls.

If Trentham gets a heavy track (and lets face it, it's long overdue) I can see the steeples being fought out between Headford, Celtic Sun and Te Haroto. In the hurdles I cannot see these three being too far away at the finish, Tirpitz, Floodlight and Outright. If he is taken south, Pauls Gold could give the sprinter milers some hurry up and I would expect him to win. The middle distance events could be interesting too, and here we would have to take a look at Tredici. I know-his form has not been the best lately but there appears to be something better ahead for him. Zelazny from Levin is in great form at the moment and is expected to go on with it for a while yet so watch those acceptances for this fellow. Still Gary Phillips and David Walsh battle it out

and at time of writing the former lead's with 95 and Walsh is on 94, Both men are riding at every possible meeting in the country and the racing public is experiencing some great battles. Good one Phillips and Walsh. Local punters are reminded that the EgmontWanganui Hunt Club will be racing at Wanganui on Tuesday 3 July. This is a popular meeting and I suggest you make the effort and spend a day there. I have mixed feelings on the return of the big jackpots ... one being run at Ellerslie today and the pool is expected to be in the vieinity of $500,000.00. Paperreports claim that some people have sold homes and other real estate to allow for vast investments and if this is so it is a very sad thing indeed. Remember Bully tips them first ... and you read it in the Bulletin.
