WAIMARINO COUNTY NEWS

At it's June meeting the Waimarino County Council announced a combined rate increase of an average of 4.5%. The initial estimate was to have been an increase of 10.59% but this was offset by a levy from the Catchment Board which effectively reduced the increase to Waimarino County ratepayers to about 4.5%. ★ ★ ★ In the report from the hydatids control officer, Mr H.G. Wise, it was pointed out that of the 1420 dogs registered last year only 1370 have so far been registered this year. The hydatids control officer warns owners of the 50 or so unregistered dogs^ that he has the right to prosecute such owners. He also advised that any

unregistered dogs impounded would be 'disposed of after three days instead of after seven days which had been the previous practice. ★ ★ ★ Waimarino County Council were informed by its building inspector, Mr H.G. Wise, that by comparison with other local authorities, the county was charging too little for its building permits. Building permits for the previous month came to a total of a little over $341,000. Council requested a report from its building committee to investigate the possibility of increasing the value of building permits. ★ ★ ★ A new system for tallying the extract of metals has been installed and, as a result of the new procedure,

the schedule for metal tallys will now be a month behind. t ★ ★ ★ The Council heard about problems on the Parapara Road with regard to sealing. They have resolved to review the sealing in areas where holes have reappeared within a year of the previous sealing work being done. ★ ★ ★ The Council learned that the cost of damage due to floods this year had already exceeded those of 1983. ★ ★ ★ The County Clerk, Mrs Hope Vaughan, thanked the Council for allowing her to attend the Counties Conference in Christchurch from 1 1-14 June. She reported back that she felt that this was one of the best conferences she had ever attended.
