McCann fires
The McCann family of Raetihi were recently the subject of a nationwide 'Spectrum' documentary broadcast on NZBC's YA stations. The programme, which dealt with the mysterious arson attempts on the McCann home in Pitt Street, Raetihi, earlier this year featured interviews with Tom and Linda McCann who described their ordeal over the 3month period leading up to their eventual evacuation from the family home. It also featured interviews with Raetihi fire chief George Chan, Ohakune police constable Marty Sutherland and ownermanager of the Raetihi Milk Company, Peter jones, who employs Mr McCann. The McCanns are still waiting for an insurance payout following the arson attack which forced them to evacuate their home last March. The family lost most of its possessions in the fire and has had to rely on charity for clothes and other essentials until the insurance money comes through. "Until they pay up we can't get to work repairing our home," said Mr McCann.
