The following cases were heard in the Ohakune District Court by Judge E.W. unwin on Thursday 21 June. Ricky John McLeod, 17, unemployed of Ohakune was placed on probation for two years and ordered to pay full compensation when he appeared for sentence on four charges of breaking and entering to which he had earlier pleaded guilty. His counsel, Mr P.G. Brown, said that McLeod had been working with a PEP group and appeared to be making considerable progress, settling down and had started repaying the $1 144 compensation. ★ ★ ★ Julie Anne Field, 20, housewife of Raetihi pleaded ■ guilty to two charges of receiving. Ms Field allegedly received 8 blankets, a television set, two copper-bottomed pots and a ski jacket knowing that they had been taken from houses in Rangataua and Ohakune by her brother. She had allegedly allowed these articles to be kept at her house. She was convicted and remanded to the Wanganui District Court on 9 July for a probation report and sentence. Bail was set at $500. Mr P.G. Brown appeared. ★ ★ ★ Samuel Sidney, 40, fencer of Taihape, pleaded guilty to refusing to permit a blood test to be taken following a minor speeding offence.
He was convicted and remanded to the Taihape District Court on 16 July for a probation rdport and sentence. Bail was set at $500. Mr D.G. Harvey appeared. ★ ★ ★ Peter John Innes, 25, painter of National Park, pleaded guilty to a charge of taking a fan heater from a holiday house in National Park on 13 June. He was convicted and remanded to 19 July for a probation report and sentence. Bail was set at $500. Mr P.G. Brown appeared. ★ ★ * Bernard John Mareikura, 20, unemployed of Ohakune, pleaded guilty to a charge of assaulting his former de facto wife. The assault occurred as a result of an argument over a jacket which the complainant had earlier given the accused. Mareikura was convicted and fined $250 and ordered to pay $20 compensation within 30 days. Mr D.G. Harvey appeared. ★ ★ ★ Henry Lewis Haitana, 24, bush worker of Raetihi pleaded guilty to intentionally obstructing a police constable at the Raetihi Hotel. He was involved in a scuffle at the hotel as he and a companion were leaving and this enabled a man in police custody to escape. He was convicted and fined $250. He was not represented by legal counsel. ★ ★ ★ Ivan Wiriana Knowles, 29, driver of Taihape, pleaded guilty to a charge that he drove on SH49 outside Ohakune with a breath alcohol level of 950: 1 . He was convicted and remanded to appear on 19 July for a probation report and sentence, Mr D.G. Harvey appeared. ★ ★ Malcolm William Dale, 35, market garden worker of Ohakune pleaded guilty to a
charge that he had driven on Taranaki Street in Wellington with a breath alcohol level of 850:1. He had been stopped in Wellington initially because of a faulty light but it became apparent to the traffic officer that alcohol was involved. Dale was convicted and fined $350 and disqualified from driving for 1 8 months following a previous conviction less than 5 years earlier. Mr D.G. Harvey appeared. ★ ★ ★ David William Hagley, 45, unemployed of Ohakune who pleaded guilty at the previous court sitting to making a false declaration that he was unemployed to obtain Social Welfare Payments was again remanded to 19 July for the exact amount of money (estimated to be $13,500) involved to be determined. Mr D.G. Harvey said the. plea was not an admission that Hagley owed this amount of money as it was complicated and needed to be determined.
