Mobile library service always welcome

The New Zealand Library Extension Service was in the Waimarino last week visiting both the Ohakune and Raetihi public libraries to exchange and re-stock country library shelves. Better known locally as the mobile country library service these vehicles are specially adapted and fitted out to carry between 3,000

and 3,500 books of all sizes. This one, driven and managed by Glenda Fulton (pictured) is based in Palmerston North and spends 6-weeks on the road visiting all country libraries between Opotiki and Gisborne in the east and right through the central and southern half of the North

Island to the Taranaki Coast, before returning to base for 3 weeks at Palmerston North. On this occasion local Ohakune librarian, Mrs Jo Warbrick, exchanged 220 books and expects the next visit (the third this year) from the mobile library in November.
