Racing with BULLY

We are now in the middle of the steeple chase season and some quite outstanding races have been witnessed but it is still too early to say who will be the best by the end of the season. Some who come to mind are Resolution, Hunterville, Bommerang, Tarawera and Greek Boy. The latter gave an outstanding display and

his battle with Celtic Sun from the last fence in the Manawatu steeples was well worth the price of admission to see. Greek Boy was undoubtedly helped by having the services of top northern fences rider, Laurie Cavanagh and it will now be interesting to see who comes out on top both at Hastings and Trentham. While at Awapuni, Gaimoss gave one of his best displays by winning the main flat event and was closely followed home by Passive Prince and Cuss. The riders premiership has really hit the headlines now and after Gary Phillips had looked the proverbial 'shots eye' up until last week, David Walsh has turned on a fantastic late run and as of today (21 June) both jockeys are level pegging on 91.

Phillips has perhaps an advantage that £e is attached to such a powerful stable as Busuttins but freelancer Walsh will still have some pretty choice mounts to pick from. The rest of the riders have now been left far behind. Jet Bet commenced in Ohakune on 15 June and congratulations are due to Mrs Shirley Nicol and her staff for the way they handled such a difficult changeover. Their first day's operation finished with a spot-on balance and this is a worthy result under these circumstances. Mrs Nicol informed me that the big percentage of local punters were most patient and helpful as the new system was introduced and the staff is vexy grateful to these people.

However one or two became quite irritable even though help was at hand to assist with the filling out of the new forms. So please all try and use the forms as they are meant to be used, you will not only help the staff and yourself but the queues will move much more smoothly. Remember also that when you pass your list of bets over, also present any winning tickets you may have and all will be completed in one transaction. Several to be with at Hastings could be locals Sky Beau and Tomsk while down from Wairoa will be Any Pound and I would make this one my pick of the day. Bully tipsthem first ... and you will read it in the Bulletin. And the message from the TAB is 'Slips beat the lips'.
