New Zealand Party appoint King Country Candidate
The King Country electorate Committee for the New Zealand Party was formed at a meeting of members on 19 June in Te Kuiti. Officers elected were (all Te Kuiti unless indicated): Chairman Russel Thompson; Deputy Chairman Robin Azariah Secretary/ Treasurer Ken Clough; Committee Scott Marmont (Piopio), Gil Peacocks (Piopio), Caroline Thomson, Andrew Von Dadelszen (Piopio), Bryan Anselmi (Piopio), Michael Bent, Harlen Dazeley, Allison Short (Pureora Forest), David Imber, Carol McLean (Kopaki). The meeting selected Graham Short as its candidate. Graham is a 45year old farmer from Pureora Forest. He is married with two daughters and two sons. Formerly from the Manawatu, the Shorts have farmed in the
King Country for eighteen years. Graham has been chairman of the local school committee and a charter member and a former president of the Benneydale Lion's Club, and is a Justice of the Peace. Off farm interests include six years involvement in a manufacturing business in Auckland and he had a particular interest in adult education. Graham told the meeting that while he had considerable respect for sitting National MP Jim Bolger, he believes it is time Jim had a rest. He sees the New Zealand Party as providing a realistic opportunity for voters in the King Country to join in the chance to change the destiny of New Zealand and to restore vision and vigour to our country.
