NEW ZEALAND — AUSTRALIA TIMBER TALKS
A cp-operative development programme involving promotion, standards and preservation has been agreed upon at a further round of timber talks between representatives of Australian and New Zealand Radiata Pine producers. The talks were held at Mt Gambier, South Australia, between representatives of the Radiata Pine Association of Australia and the New Zealand Timber Industry Federation. In a joint Statement at the conclusion of the meeting, Mr Eric Roughana (RPAA) and Mr Dick Perham (NZTIF) said that there had been a positive decision to work closely together. They said the two organisations would: Work together to develop a preservative treatment policy that would lead to a unified branding of products treated for specific end uses; Launch a promotional and educational programme for Radiata Pine, with the programme being centred on eastern States; Seek a rationalisation of standards and sizes, especially for timber being exported to third countries. "Each delegation will now report back to its respective organisation within the next few weeks," the spokesman stated. "Full endorsement of the agreements can be expected." Sub-committees . will undertake further work on the topics discussed and will report back to a further meeting which will be held in New Zealand in October.
