RUGBY
Ohakune celebrated its entry into Ihe First Division of the Wanganui Rugby Premiership by beating Waverley 7-3 on Saturday 9 June, whilst Waiouru recorded its first loss of the season against Marton Old Boys 15-6, in the Second Division. Raetihi's season is looking up after their impressive 21-0 win over T.C.O.B. Seconds in the Third Division. Bruce Cranston, for Ohakune, had another outstanding game at flanker whilst Ray Brown and Lachlan Harding were impressive in the backline. Scorers were: Ohakune, Whetu Mareikuratryand S. Gordon penalty; Waverley, Bruce Middleton penalty. Walter Cassidy has now caught the eyes of the national selectors and has been nominated for. a trial game to select a New Zealand Junior side which will tour this country later in the season.
