WAIOURU NEWS
Plans are being made for a skating rink in Waiouru. The suggested site is beside the Waiouru Playcentre on Weir Terrace. Fundraising for the rink has been going on for the last four years, but is not completed. Costings and plans for the proposed building are still being made. ★ ★ ★ An accident occurred on the Desert Road 11 miles north of Waiouru on Monday 3 June when a motorbike left the road to dodge an oncoming car which was passing another. While emergency services were attending the accident, a further 200 yards down the road three nose to tail accidents occurred. Police said that drivers were driving too close and were not paying enough attention to the roads, Road conditions were bad with drizzle and mist. No one was injured. ★ ★ ★ A two car collision occurred on Mulvays Corner on Saturday 2 June at 11.15 a.m. A southbound vehicle failed to keep left and veered into the path of a car travelling north.
