MINISTER REPLIES

WRITTEN QUESTION: Thursday 7 June 1984 Question 22 on the Order Paper Mr Moore (Papanui) to the Minister of Health: What does the Minister plan for , the future of the Waimarino Hospital at Raetihi? Reply: Hon A.G. Malcolm (Minister of Health) replied: "Undermyadministration decisions on the planning and administration of hospital services have been substantially decentralised. The real issue therefore is not what the Minister plans for the future of the Waimarino Hospital but what the locally elected Wanganui Hospital Baord has in mind. I can advise the Member that the Wanganui Hospital Board is currently preparing a service development plan and the first stage of this plan, which is an overall review of obstetric services in the board 's area, should be available in July. A review of other hospital services will follow. Clearly no firm decisions can be made until the hospital board has completed an overall review of services and it would be wrong for me to pre-empt their decisions; but so as to avoid any possibility that the Member's question might create uncertainty in Raetihi I should add that it is my view that the Waimarino Hospital will continue to supply general and maternity hospital services to the people living in its area."
