New shopping complex gets underway in Ohakune
A former motor repair shop in Goldfinch Street, Ohakune (pictured) is rapidly being transformed into a new shopping complex containing a total of six retail and other outlets. These will include a menswear store, a ladies wear shop, a shoe shop, a coffee shop and a new office for the TAB currently situated in Clyde Street. The tenant of the sixth shop hasn't yet been signed up, said local developer Jim Goldfinch ... "it will probably be a cosy little nicknack boutique." The work is proceeding apace . . . already a new solidslab concrete floor has been poured and a framework of partitions erected. Only the original roof remains. An covered all-weather walkway with a transparent roof will provide access to all shops and will give a 'light airey' look to the whole complex. The architectural style will match neighbouring retail stores and it will now be possible for shoppers
parking in Clyde Street to walk under cover from the former takeaway bar on the corner of Clyde and Goldfinch Streets, past the wine shop and the new shopping complex to the Wanganui Savings Bank
and the New World supermarket. Mr Goldfinch expects the first tenants to be able to move in and start decorating and furnishing sometime
between the end of this month and the middle of next.
