Forest Service patrols to check on firewood permits

Permits have been issued from Karioi Forest Headquarters to all members of the public to collect firewood during weekends. The permittees on collecting permits are directed to Karioi Weighbridge site where arrowed signs direct them to the area where weekend collection is allowed. In recent weeks it has been noted that some permittees have deviated from signposted collection areas. During the weekend ending 3 June, a permittee encroached onto a logging contractors skid site and cut

short lengths of stacked pole material which had been segregated and cut for a special order and was of high value. In future any permittees found cutting outside directed area will have his permit immediately cancelled and be stopped from gaining entry into the forest. As from the weekend ending 10 June 1984, Forest patrols will be carried out to check on permits and areas where firewood is to be taken. Any person removing firewood from outside the designated area will be dealt with as in the paragraph above.
