Plenty of notice required if 'jubilee' beards are to be grown

At its meeting last month the Ohakune Borough Councii recommended that it should seriously consider acknowledging Ohakune's 75th Jubilee in 1986 in some form. Ohakune was first proclaimed 'a borough' on 2 November 1911. The 'town board' which, until then had been in charge of this burgeoning timber town, sat for the last time on 28 November and the 'borough' took over the reins of office for the first time on 5 December 1911. If the 75th Jubilee is to be celebrated in 1986 arrangements should be started very shortly suggested members of the Council's Finance and Administration Committee — "particularly if councillors and staff are to grow beards for the occasion!"
