Busy month for Borough staff

Following are some of the items included in the Raetihi Borough Foreman's report which was presented at last month's meeting of the Raetihi Borough Council. These items.which cover a period of a month,certainly indicate that the Borough foreman, Craig Ryland, and his staff are being kept busy. • Lawnmowingand borders trimmed at the cemetery. • Rubbish runs. • Weir, settling pond and reservoir checks. • One grave dug. • Sewer line. checks. • Tip maintenance. • Road maintenance and

gutters cleared. Metalcleared from Seddon Street. • Waterworks: sewer unblocked twice in camping grounds; connection in Mt View Road; broken water pipe repaired at Football club; tap at Pensioner's flat repaired. • Old car removed from camping ground. • Tram painted. • Shrubs collected from Karioi Pulp Mill have been planted around the town. • Impounding: 3 dogs shot for sheep worrying; 3 dogs impounded. Total of $35 collected; 6 horses impounded. Total of $170

collected. • Assistance was given to Wanganui Asphalts which began work on the 9 April in Ward Street. • Concrete blocks have been collected to make a fish race at the weir. • Vandals in cars have been causing damage to grassed areas. One offender was

caught in the act during a night patrol and the police have the matter in hand. • A'STEPS'worker started on Monday 30 April. • The sewerage system is causing some problems in Seddon Street. A blockage was found on Sunday 29 April. Many attempts to clear this problem have failed. A drainlayer was called in on Monday 30. There was no progress made with pumping on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.

On consultation with Councillors Summerhays and Punch, it was decided to call in contractors to deal with the problem. Two trips were made to Wanganui to pick up pipes. On Friday, a drain was dug to lay a new line. This trench is causing problems with caving in and the road cracking around it. Trucks and a digger were hired to remove mud and papa on Saturday 5. Work is continuing at this stage.
