TOWN SIGN

Raetihi is soon to have a distinctive carved wooden sign at the entrance to the town. It will be carved from a huge piece of totara (approx 1 2ft x 2ft) and placed at the junction of Seddon Street and the main approach roads (SH4 and SH49) on the corner occupied by the Raetihi Police Station. The timber, which was provided by Winstone's Mill in Raetihi, is being carved by local craftsman Alan Brown. The design is understood to comprise a Maori motif on each side of the name 'Raetihi' which will be incised into a natural wood finish. The name will then be given an in-fill in white so that it will be clearly visible to all drivers, even at night, approaching the town from north, south or east.
