WINTER FISHING NOT FOR WAIMARINO

The Ohakune Borough Council has received a letter from the secretary pf the Central North Island Wildlife Conservancy Council, Mr H. Brown, saying that his committee did not support a request for winter fishing in some streams in the Ohakune area. The Ohakune Borough Council had proposed that some of the streams in the area should be opened up for winter fishing to further extend the recreational options for visitors to the area during the winter months. With the exception of the two small Karioi lakes there

is no winter fishing in the Waimarino — anglers have to travel round to the other side of Mount Ruapehu, to Lake Taupo or the Tongariro River, to fish during winter months. The Central North Island Wildlife Conservancy Council said . that since the proposal from the Ohakune Borough Council had not received any support from its committee, no request has been forwarded to the Conservator of Wildlife at Rotorua. The Ohakune Borough Council has requested Councillor Snow Brannigan to pursue the matter further.
