Tribunal rules in favour of Hobbit restaurant
After considering evidence which had been heard earlier in the week the Planning Tribunal, last Friday morn-
ing, allowed the appeal of Mr Phil Jackson to operate a public restaurant at The Hobbit Motel and Lodge in Goldfinch Street, Ohakune. The Planning Tribunal had heard evidence from both the Ohakune Borough Council who, on behalf of four objectors — Cafe Stua, Sunbeam Lodge, Pipers Kings Court and the Junction Businessmen's Association — opposed the application and Mr Phil Jackson who had applied to
operate a public restaurant all year round as part of the existing restaurant facilities associated with The Hobbit 's accommodation and catering services. The ruling in favour of Mr Jackson will no doubt be a popular one with most readers of the Bulletin judging from the amount of correspondence we have received on the subject over the past few months — all of it in favour of The Hobbit operating a public restaurant.
