COMMUNITY COLLEGE OPENS

The Wanganui Regional Community College was formally opened on Saturday 26 May at a function attended by about 200 people including many local body representatives from throughout the region. In his address the Minister of Education, Mr Wellington, said that the opening of the college meant that the region would no longer have to export many of its young people to the metropolitan areas for their tertiary education. Wanganui MP Mr Russell Marshall paid tribute to all those who had worked so hard and so long to establish a community college which would not only provide a focal point for the development of employment skills (including those needed for tourism which the region was about to be involved with on a large scale) but would also enrich the lives of many people throughout the region.
