Racing with BULLY

What a good horse Resolution is when racing over fences. His display at Te Rapa was outstanding and he just played with the opposition in the run home. I did think though that his pilot, the trainer's son, Peter Venn, rode him with too much confidence as he kept looking across at the other horse all the way home from the last fence instead of

settling down and riding his own mount right out to the finish. He will, I feel sure, win the Great Northern Steeple Chase. The Ladies special came hdme too and Bidston Hill was at unbelievable odds, paying $9.40 and $3.40, really worfderful money. This week I was accused of being 'sexist' because I gave a Ladies Special but nothing for the men punters. I must be more careful in future and our specials will be naturally for all punters. At Foxton a most impressive colt in Lontigre won the .prestigious Triton 9000 with Noel Harris on top. The colt is trained at Rotorua by Wings and is Australian bred, he is by Beaches out of La Chandell and belongs to the same family as Todman, and what a champion he was. Lontigre was a quiet tip for

this race, but he still paid $12.45 and $1.95. There was a lot of money for the first three favourites in this event, Prince Royale, Super Roo and Northcote Express and although they were thereabouts at the finish they were outclassed by the winner. It will be a while before Lontigre pays so much again because we are all aware now of his capabilities and his future progress will be watched with interest. Good news for local punters ... Jet Bet is coming to Ohakune on 15 June and this is really something for punters. Those of us who like quinella or trifecta betting, have not- been able to participate in this area because the manual system of TAB betting could not handle it. However under the new system it is. all systems go and as the TAB

manageress, Mrs Shirley Nicol advises me, many locals actually travel to Turangi or Hunterville at present to enjoy the full facilities that they have had for sometime. Others have telephone accounts. with either the Palmerston North or Wanganui TAB to place their bets and remember that instead of bets havingto be made 50 minutes ahead, the new system will allow bets up until 10 minutes before starting times. All punters are requested to use the slips and should any difficulties arise there will be hostesses on hand to help in the public area. All staff too will be only too ready to. help. They might even give a winner or two as well. A special for all punters at Wanganui ... Vicki Deming. Remember Bully tips them first, and you will read it in the Bulletin.
