Ohakune accounts
The Ohakune Borough Council is a large local business — the ratepayers are the shareholders and the councillors are its directors. Any business that constantly overspends its budget runs the grave risk of going bankrupt. The recent Ohakune Borough Council statement of accounts that the Council chose not to publish in your local Bulletin show that the budget was overspent by $205,771 — close to 50%. The audit department draws ratepayer's attention to the fact that the administration has also contravened the law on two counts. Is there any independent, qualified person able to rationally comment on the present financial situation of Ohakune to allay the ratepayers fears that Ohakune is headed towards bankruptcy.
