Charity Golf Tournament and Banquet
More than $1600 was raised last Thursday following the Charity Golf Tournament and Banquet which Ruapehu Lions had organised for the St Dominic's School for the Deaf in Feilding. The golf tournament attracted 73 golfers to the Waimarino Golf Club at Makaranui and 120 ban-
queters to the clubhouse later that evening. And banquet it was ... freshwater crayfish from Karioi, trout from Tokaanu, suckling pig, roast beef and lamb, salami and ham, salads and sweets. All the food was donated by various individuals and local business organisations —the trout came from
former resident Bob Summerhays and most of the fresh vegetables came from the Ohakune Growers Association. The banquet was prepared by Lions members and Lady Lions under the inspired direction of vice-president and
'chef-de-cuisine' Brian Dowsett. Short speeches were given by Ian Strachan, president of the Waimarino Golf Club, Wally Parkes, president of Ruapehu Lions and Brian Dowsett who all thanked those present for their support in raising such a large sum of money for a very worthwhile cause. The generous prizes and monetary donations were made by the following: Skiers Inn, FCOS, Cedar Service Station, Tractor & Machinery, Kunikraft, Kapai Books, Sheepskin Shop, Dalgety Crown Ohakune, Maata Supplies, Pat and Elaine Goldfinch, Ohakune TV Electrical, Reynolds Ford, Buck's Drapery, R and J Pearson, Barrett & Taura, Bowater Saddlery, Kaycee Stores, Wrightson NMA, Four Square, G. Workman, G. Dobson, C & H Transport, AHI Turoa Skifields, Dixon Engineering, Bank of New Zealand, Wanganui Savings Bank, Ohakune Shoes. -
