OHAKUNE COURT FILE
The following cases were heard by Judge E.W. Unwin in the Ohakune District Court on Thursday 19 April 1984. ★ ★ ★ Keith William Hammond, 18, opossum trapper of Ohakune, was convicted and remanded until 24 May pending a probation report, on two charges that on the 9th day of April. 1984 he did with reckless disregard to the safety of others, discharge an airgun at two children. Hammond was not represented in court and pleaded guilty. The air rifle has been seized by the police and a forfeiture order issued. ★ ★ ★ Tony Anthony John Pikari, 17, bushman of Raetihi, who had earlier pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawfully using a motorcycle was fined $230 with $20 court costs after the hearing of the probation report. He was further disqualified from driving a motor vehicle for four months. He was represented by D.G. Harvey. ★ ★ ★ Daniel Parker, 23, bushman of Raetihi, pleaded guilty to a
charge that he did steal one tyre assembly valued at $130 from a motor yard in Ohakune. He was fined $230 with $20 court costs and further disqualified from driving for a period of two months. He was not represented by legal counsel. ★ ★ ★ Thomas Frederick Hough, 38, carrier of Ohakune, was convicted on a charge that he was the owner of a motor vehicle that was fitted with a distance recorder that did not accurately record the distance travelled by the vehicle. He was fined $230 with $20 court costs. He was represented by D.G. Harvey. ★ ★ ★ Russell Redpath Prouse, restaurant owner formerly of Ohakune, was convicted on a charge that he did wilfully damage electrical wiring in such a manner that it was a danger to life. The defendent, who is believed to be out of the country, was not represented, and a warrant for his arrest has been issued. P.G. Brown appeared for the Crown. ★ Byfords Contracting & Construction Co Ltd of Taihape were fined $230 with $20 court costs on a charge that they were operating a motor vehicle on a road when the gross weight of that vehicle was more than the maximum gross weight specified in the distance licence. They were represented by P.G. Brown. * ★ ★ Gordon Lewis Middlemiss, 35, formerly of Raetihi, now Wanganui, was convicted and remanded until Monday 14 May 1984 pending the completion of a probation report. He had pleaded guilty to three charges, one of assaulting a child at Raetihi Baths, secondly that he did with intent to intimidate a constable threaten to injure that person and thirdly that he threatened to do grievous bodily harm to that same person. He will be sentenced at the Wanganui Court. He was not represented
by legal counsel but P.G. Brown appeared for the Crown. ★ ★ ★ Wayne Gary Harris, 24, unemployed driver, Wayne Thomas Davey, 23, panelbeater, John Francis William Kaire, 21, assembly wo'rker, Howard Butch Harris, 27, tree planter, all of Mangere, ^Auckland, were remanded on bail until 7 May and are to report three times a week to the Otahuhu Police Station, pending the taking of depositions. They were each charged that they did break and enter a dwelling in Pipiriki with intent to commit a crime therein and that they received from a person or persons unknown, goods to the value of $ 1 554.00, knowing that they had been dishonestly obtained. They were all represented by D.G. Harvey. ★ ★ ★ Puke Robert Baker, 24, petrol pump attendant, Waiouru pleaded not guilty to a charge that he attempted to escape lawful custody. After hearing evidence from police witnesses and the defendent, His Honour found the charge proven. Baker hjd^ previously been fined disqualified for a month on a charge of driving without a licence and had also previously pleaded guilty to a charge of dangerous driving. Sentencing on this and the escaping custody charge were held over pending a probation officer's report, the defendent being remanded until 24 May 1984. He was represented by D.G. Harvey.
