FIRST SIGNS OF 1984 SKI SEASON
Several cars have already been seen in Ohakune with skis on their roof racks. There could be several explanations of this early pre-season phenomenon among them being: • These people have arrived hoping to ski having heard that snow has fallen on Ruapehu.
• They know something the locals don't know about the current ski scene. • They have brought last year's gear back to their holiday homes and chalets. • They have been purchasing equipment for the coming season at one of the local ski shops that has been advertising throughout the
North Island. The most likely explanation is the last one ... proprietor Mike Wiggins said that already he has had a good response from his advertisements in the Bulletin and other newspapers and expects to be very busy over the long Easter/Anzac Day weekend. Other ski shops in Ohakune and National Park also expect to do as well over what has traditionally become a pre ski season weekend.
