Racing with BULLY

The new Jet Bet system was introduced to Wanganui last week and it appeared to go along quite sweetly in most quarters although there were some minor teething troubles. It reminded me of the change in 1967 from Pounds, Shillings and Pence to the decimal currency system. There is a certain amount of resistance to the new methods because the public has been used to doing it one way for so many years. At first look the betting slips may appear frightening but if the form is read properly it is a most simple idea and it gives the punter complete privacy in placing his or her bet. No words need to be spoken because your slip is handed to the operator, who then feeds the slip directly into

her computer and you are immediately presented with your betting tiekets and the total you need to pay appears on a screen immediately in front of the punter. So please all you punters out there, give the system a fair go and I am sure you will be surprised at its simplicity. By the way it won't be too long before Ohakune is joined to the computer network. How welcome that move will be. "Locals will then be able to enjoy the additional betting methods such as Quinnellas and Trifectas. Next week sees the Hawkes Bay meeting under way and the Cup this year should be a cracker. I have not seen nominations yet

but judging by the track work in the region there are many good handicappers just waiting to step out on a new campaign. Two from the Manawatu who are my choice as early winners are Volare and D'Arcy. Another from Horowhenua, a Paddy Busuttin trainqd horse is General Fripon and he is a certainty to be in the money any day now. One from Woodville to add to the class of the Hawkes Bay cup could be Compromise and there is a lot of observers at this training centre who hold this fellow in very high esteem. Two'specials from the Waikato are Harpoon and Troubled Waters. Remember Bully tips them first in the Bulletin.
