Appointments for head boy and girl as well as deputy head boy and girl have now been completed at Ruapehu College for 1984. They were: Head Boy Joseph Herewini, Head Girl Hine Warbrick, Deputy Head Boy Robin Taylor, Deputy Head Girl Christina Renata. ★ ★ ★ On the 30 March Ruapehu College hosted a sports trip from Taihape College. Several sports were played including softball, cricket and tennis. The results were as follows: Junior Girls Softball was won by Ruapehu with a 191 1 victory. Senior girls softball was also won by Ruapehu with a 10-5 victory over Taihape. In tennis Ruapehu College won 9 games/Taihape won 7 games. Single wins were: Michael Edwards 6-1, Glen Journeaux 6-1, Mathew •lowat 7-5, Kylie Hope 6-3, ^Rcki Pearce 6-3, Judith Kumeroa 6-1. Double wins were: Glen Journeaux and Kylie Hope 6-2, Michael Edwards and Angela Trotter 6-2, Jamie Dennison and Marcus Davey 7-5. Ruapehu lost the girls cricket match but it was a well played game with Taihape scoring 82 for 5 wickets. Ruapehu scored 30 all out. The boy's cricket was lost narrowly by Ruapehu College. Taihape batted first leaving Ruapehu to chase 113 runs for 9 wickets. Ruapehu College batted well but ended the game at 1 10 all out. ★ ★ ★ 9ks parents will be aware now that the price freeze has been lifted many items are increasing in price. The cost of pies supplied to the college has increased by between 6c-9c depending on the pie filling. Consequently we are forced to increase our price but will absorb some of this rise. All our pies have
been increased by 5p from last week. ★ ★ ★ The A.G.M. of the P.T.A. will be held on Tuesday 17 Aprl at 7.30pm in the College Hall. Coupled with this will be a "Meet the teacher" evening. Parents of Third Form pupils in particular are welcome to discuss the progress of their child as these reports will have been issued before then. However any parent is welcome to discuss their child's progress at any time. ★ ★ ★ Following the Wanganui Secondary Schools Athletic Championships the following students were selected to compete for Wanganui Schools at the North Island Secondary Schools Championships in Hamilton. Adam Farmer, Anthony Farmer, Christopher Vine and Thomas Waara. ★ ★ ★ Winter sports trials are still underway and teams should be selected by the end of the week. ★ ★ ★ On Saturday 24 March a group-of thirteen staff — husbands, wives and families — travelled to Taranaki for an educational trip organised by the Manawatu Science Teachers' Association. The first visit was to the Kapuni Gas Treatment Station and then across the road to the Ammonia Urea Plant. At both these sites conducted tours were given. In the afternoon the gates to the Waipipi Ironsands were opened for the visitors to view the complex. All of the sites visited were directly related to the School Certificate Science syllabus being of economic and technological importance. ★ ★ ★ On Wednesday 21 March a team of over fifty students travelled to Wanganui for the Wanganui Regional Secondary School Athletics accompanied by Mr M.
Warbrick, Mr I. Meredith and Miss L. Wilson. The highlight of the day was a record-breaking performance by Adam Farmer in the junior boys 400 metres. Results were as follows: lst placings: T. Waara Int. boys, triple jump; Anthony Farmer Jun. boys, shot; C. Renata Sen. girls, discus; C. Vine Jun. boys, triple jump; Adam Farmer Jun. boys, 400 metres (new record 56.4s); Anthony Farmer Jun. boys, 200 metres; Adam Farmer Jun. boys, 100 metres. 2nd placings: Adam Farmer Jun. boys, high jump; T. Taura Int. girls, 800 metres; C. Vine Jun. boys, long jump; J. Oliver Sen. girls, 200 metres. 3rd placings: T.- Waara Int. boys, long jump; L. Kurukaanga Sen. boys, long jump; R. Evans Int. girls, high jump; T. Waara Int. boys, 100 metres; J. Oliver Sen. girls, 100 metres; K. Prince Int. girls, shot; T. Taura Int. girls, 400 metres; Anthony Farmer Jun. boys, 100 metres.
