Bridge to be replaced

Bridge 169 which carries the railway track over the Ohakune Mountain Road is due to be replaced soon as part of the electrification and re-alignment of the Main Trunk Line. Drawings for the new bridge have been prepared by NZ Railways engineers and these are now out for tender. It is understood that the new bridge alignment will carry the track slightly south (nearer camera) of the existing bridge. The new bridge will allow for a wider and straighter Mountain Road. This will provide better visibility as

well as a footpath on this narrow, dangerous and busy road.

More than 1 000 vehicles a day use this road during the ski season.
