Ohakune's footpaths
The Ohakune Borough Council has come in for some criticism from Lee Street resident, Diana Mcllwrick, for it's failure to fulfil an election promise to upgrade the footpaths in the area. With no local bus service, walking to town from the Junction, is the'only option for Mrs Mcllwrick. The walk along Goldfinch Street is a particularly bumpy one for her three month old son in his pram and by journey's end, he is understandably irritable and restless. The problem does not end in town however, as the footpaths there are also in a sad state of disrepair. Mrs Mcllwrick is particularly critical of the Ayr Street area where she says footpaths are virtually non-existent. The issue of improved pedestrian walkways was an important one in last year's. Local Body Elections with many of the candidates pledging to work for an urgent upgrading programme. What happened?
