Combined River Schools Sports Day

The relieving principal of Pipiriki School, Trissa Mclntyre, sent the results of the Combined River Schools Sports Day to the Bulletin together with some accounts of the day's activities from pupils at the school. Here are some of their descriptions and comments ... they say it all: "It was early in the morning when the white mist covered the hill. We all arrived at the school and waited for our manuhiris. Then suddenly we heard cars coming. We all lined up. Then as our manuhiris started to walk up the drive with their koros and kuias, I, Vanessa Te Huia, said a loud Karanga. 'Haere mai te manuhiri eeeee.' My voice echoed through the trees. Then one of the Ranana children said a Karanga and Francis Henare did a miki for us. Now'our Sports Day has started." Vanessa Te Huia "The three legged race was a laugh because we had to join our legs together. Dick Beamsly and Brendan Thompson (Parikino) kept on falling over. My cousin Francis Henare and I (Pipiriki) tripped up but we ended up coming first."

good."
