The following cases were heard by Judge E.W. Unwin at the Ohakune District Courthouse on Thursday 22 March. ★ ★ ★ John Fuimaono, 22, mongrel mob member of Mangere, appeared on two charges or rape and one of indecent assault. He also faces two charges of breaking and entering a house at Pipiriki and of
possessing an offensive weapon last month. He admitted all six charges and was remanded in custody to the Wanganui District Court on 27 March. ★ ★ ★ Wayne Gary Harris, 24, unemployed of Mangere and Wayne Thomas Davey, 24, panelbeater also of Mangere, both mongrel mob members, were each charged with breaking and entering a house in Pipiriki and receiving stolen goods last month. Both were remanded to the Ohakune District Court on 19 April for a date to be set for depositions. ★ ★ ★ Wayne Francis Waara and Donald James Wikitera, both of Raetihi, failed to appear on charges relating to the killing and possession of native pigeons in July last year. Both men had been charged with the killing and possession of four native pigeons at National Park. Waara, who had earlier denied the two charges, and Wikitera, who had earlier failed to appear to enter a plea, were each fined a total of S580 in their absence last Thursday. On the killing charge each was fined $300 (court costs $20) and on the possession charge each was fined $200 (court costs $20). They were also fined $20 for each pigeon. ★ ★ ★ Neil Toss Katene, 19, railway worker of Ohakune, admitted a charge of receiving a radio cassette player valued at $499 in August 1982. He was fined $250 (court costs $20). ★ ★ ★ Doreen Ann Middlemiss, 37, of Wanganui, appeared on five charges of false pretences relating to the presentation of false cheques in November last year. She was released on probation for 12 months on condition that she pay $325 in compensation and has her finances controlled by the probation officer if directed. ★ ★ ★ Gordon Lewis Middlemiss, 35, labourer of Raetihi, denied three charges of intimidating a police constable and one charge of threatening to do grievous bodily harm in February this year. On a further charge of assaulting a 13-year old child he entered no plea. He was remanded at large for a defended hearing on 1 9 April. ~ ★ ★ ★ Brian Michael Ludeman, 32, gardenhand of Ohakune, appeared for sentence on
two convictions of driving without a licence. Due to 'special circumstances' no further disqualification was imposed but he was placed on probation for 12 months on the condition that he abstain from drinking if directed and receive treatment for alcohol if directed. A final warning was placed on his record. ★ ★ ★ Ricky John McLeod, unemployed of Ohakune appeared for sentence on four charges of breaking and entering four Ohakune premises — Crown Farmers Ltd, Cedar Service Station, Leisure City Ltd and the Rendezvous Dairy — late last year. He was remanded on bail for a further three months without the previously imposed curfew but with a warning that, if he reoffends, he will not be released on bail. ★ ★ ★ Puke Robert Baker, 24, painter of Waiouru appeared on a charge of escaping from custody iri December last year. He denied the charge and was remanded at large for a defended hearing on 19 April. He was further remanded for sentence to 19 April on two previous convictions of failing to stop upon the signal of a- constable and
driving in a manner that might be dangerous to the public. ★ ★ ★ TonyAnthony Pikari, 17, unemployed of Raetihi, was convicted and remanded on bail of $500 to 19 April for a probation officer's report and sentence on a charge of taking a motorcycle valued at $1200 in February this year. ★ ★ ★ Raymond Brown, 49, rabbitter of Raetihi, was convicted and fined $300 and disqualified from driving for 6 months on a charge of driving with a blood alcohol level of 1 29: 100 in November last year. He was ordered to pay fees of $72. He was convicted and fined $20 on a further charge of driving a vehicle with no warrant of fitness. Court costs on each charge was $20. ★ ★ ★ Douglas John Shearman, 22, unemployed of Raetihi and Leslie Charles Wehi, 24^^ unemployed also of Raetih^^ appeared for sentence on charges of stealing milk and bread from premises- in Raetihi in February this year. Both were convicted and given suspended sentences of 18 months and each was ordered to pay $50 towards the cost of prosecution.
