Impact of Turoa Skifield being studied
Businessmen and women, local residents and holiday home owners in Ohakune and Raetihi are likely to be approached during the month to ascertain their views about the impact of the Turoa Skifield on the neighbouring (Waimarino) district. The approach will be made by Simon Arkwright of Christchurch who, as part of a study being undertaken for a thesis to obtain a Master of Arts degree in Geography at Canterbury University, is conducting this current survey. It is one of two he plans for the area ... the second will be during the ski season when questions will be asked of those using the Turoa Skifield.
This survey by an objective observer of the Ohakune/ Raetihi ski scene should be of interest and value to everyone in the Waimarino whether they be commercial operators of accommodation houses and retail businesses and service industries, permanent residents or seasonal visitors. When the survey is complete the Bulletin will be bringing you the findings.
