Prefects for 1984 have now been elected. The appointments made on Friday 9 March were: Hine Warbrick, Joseph Herewini, Christina Renata, Robin Taylor, Bernadine Skudder, Lyndon Kurukaanga, Thelma Berry, Ashley Berry, Vicki Baker, Gabriel Te Moana, Paul Tamati. The appointment of another girl and the head girl and boy will take place further into the year. ★ ★ ★ Ruapehu College's school council met for their first meeting of 1984 on 9 March. The council, consisting of two representatives from each form class, have elected three new officials to their positions. They are: Chairperson Bernadine Skudder, Vice Chairperson Ashley Berry, Secretary Vicki Baker, Treasurer Ashley Berry. ★ * * ^^Four officials from the 4^®partment of Maori Affairs, including local resident Mrs Murphy, visited the College on 22 March. The aim of the visit was to interview third form pupils to determine their goals and aspirations for the future. Results from the interviews will be recorded for each pupil. ★ ★ ★ On 15 March the College was visited by the Gideon
Society. They talked to all third and fourth formers about religious studies and issued free testaments to those who were interested. ★ ★ * Ruapehu College had a vice-versa trip with Taumarunui High School on 8 March. All teams played in good spirit and the results were as follows: Boys softball: Win to Ruapehu 20-17. Ruapehu Still had another innings to complete. Boys cricket: Held at Taumarunui with Ruapehu being defeated by 8 wickets. Ruapehu went down 49 all out and Taumarunui passed their score with the loss of 2 wickets. Star player for Ruapehu was Bruce Turner who scored 2 1 of the 49 runs the college made. Girls cricket: Held at Ruapehu College with Ruapehu again defeated. The final score was 46 all out to Taumarunui High School's 109 all out. A sound game, however, as the college team had little chance to practice. ★ ★ ★ On Saturday 17 March Kelly Dobson, Anthony Farmer and Adam Farmer
travelled to Palmerston North for the North Island Swimming Championships. They represented the Wanganui region in a number of events. Kelly Dobson was entered in the medley, Adam Farmer entered the 200m backstroke, 100m and 200m breaststroke and the medley. Anthony Farmer was the only swimmer of the three to reach a final, finishing 7th in the 200m backstroke. All three pupils are Third Formers and junior swimmers at the College.

Vicki Baker The following evening classes have commenced for adults. Tuesday/Thursday: Computing, College; Ladies Keep Fit, Raetihi Primary. Tuesday: Clothing/Sewing, College; Ceramics, HoneypDt Raetihi. Wednesday: Typing, College; Maori Language, College. There are still vacancies in most classes. Anyone wanting details can contact Ruapehu College. Classes in Woodwork, Engineering, Cake Decorating and Patchwork may commence in Term 2 if sufficient people are interested.
