CUBS ATTEND WEEKEND CAMP
Sixteen cubs of the Ohakune pack accompanied by two leaders, three parents and two guides recently camped in the Kaimanawas where they made use of the College facilities. While there the cubs had to undertake various activities to qualify for their bronze, silver and gold Koru badges. Badge earning activites included setting and following trails, learning compass courses, making hideouts and huts, collecting plants and insects (among these were some large water spiders), making dampers and cooking sausages. Fun games and activities included river . 'rafting' the rapids on inner tubes, swimming, fishing (several trout were caught), one-day cricket by day while atnight they played such games as ^fcpotlight hide and chase •Kefore settling down to listen to ghost stories and enjoy a campfire sing-a-long. The success of the Cub camp was due to the help given by the adults and the enthusiasm of the boys ... not even when they were rained out on the final morning and ended up with drenched tents and gear at 5.30am were their spirits dampened once they had had a warm filling breakfast before heading home.
