Studying Ohakune
Twenty seven 7th Form students from the Hutt Valley Memorial College in Petone were in Ohakune recently as part of a leadership course to study changes the town has been through in recent years. Their investigations included the impact of such developments on the town as the skiing and pulpmillingindustries. Questions were asked not only of those directly involved in these
recent developments but also of long-term residents whose recollections provided a useful comparison. The students and their teachers stayed in the Taylor Memorial Lodge at Pokaka (named after Hugh and Alison Taylor, brother and sister,-in-law of Ohakune's mayor) who, while teachers at the Hutt Valley Memori^fc College, were killed in^^ plane crash in Burma in 1977.
