The following cases were heard by Judge E.W. Unwin in the Ohakune District Court on Thursday v 23 February. George Maxwell Moses Tamatea, 19, unemployed on Ohakune, was appearing for sentenee having pleaded guilty to 12 offences — five of false pretences, four of using documents to procure pecuniary advantage, two of forgery and one of receiving. These offences were committed shortly after he had appeared on charges relating to earlier offences. He was jailed for 12 months on each charge, the terms to be concurrent. ★ ★ ★ Henry Lewis Haitana, 24, shearer of Raetihi pleaded guilty to a charge of breaking a glass door in the Raetihi Hotel and to assaulting the hotel manager. He was convicted of both offences and fined $175 on the wilful damage charge. On the assault charge he was fined $330 of which $100 was to be paid to the complainant. * * * Phillip Jerry Hiroti, 24, shearer of Raetihi, who had earlier pleaded guilty to burglary was placed on probation for 12 months and ordered to pay $4949 within three motnhs or go to jail. On a charge of driving while disqualified to which he had pleaded guilty he was fined $300 and disqualified from-driving for 1 2 months. ★ ★ ★ Mack Pue, 43, shearer of Raetihi pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop at a 'Stop' sign and thus being involved in an accident. He was fined $150.
Douglas Shearman, 22, unemployed of Raetihi pleaded guilty to a theft of bread and milk from a premises in Raetihi on 9 February. He was convicted and remanded to 22 March to appear for a probation report and sentenee. ★ ★ ★ Leslie Wehi, 24, unemployed of Raetihi pleaded guilty to a theft of bread and milk from a premises in Raetihi on 9 February. He was convicted and remanded to 22 March to' appear for a probation report and sentenee. ★ ★ ★ Darrell Shane McLeod, 20, workman of Karioi, was appearing for sentenee on a charge of driving without a licence to which he had earlier pleaded guilty. He was fined $120 and disqualified from driving for 12 -months. ★ ★ ★ Ronald Thomas Ham-ilton-Low, 18, forest worker of Ohakune, pleaded not . guilty to a charge of driving
on State Highway 49 between Raetihi and Ohakune in a manner that may have been dangerous. After hearing evidence from police witnesses his Honour found the charge proven. He was fined $200 and disqualified from driving for six months. ★ ★ ★ Trevor Murdoch Henare, 17, forestry labourer of Ohakune, was appearing for sentenee on two charges of breaking and entering to which he had earlier pleaded guilty. He was placed on probation for 15 months. He must pay $4 1 7 compensation and his finances placed under control if so directed. On a charge of possession of cannabis he was fined $125. ★ ★ ★ Puke Robert Baker, 23, painter of Waiouru pleaded guilty to a charge of failing to stop for a constable in uniform and driving in a manner that might have been dangerous. He was convicted and remandedi^fc 22 March for sentenee. On a charge of driving without a licence he was fined $40.
