Boon to athletes and invalids

A piece of equipment that promises to bring considerable relief, comfort and mobility to people suffering from long-term ailments such as arthritis and rheumatism or short-term injuries such as strains and sprains, was demonstrated in the Waimarino recently. It is the Sonoid therapeutic vibrator that works on a spheroid principle which reactivates the blood supply to damaged tissues. U nlike the hammer action of othervibrating equipment, which is damaging ~ to tissues, the elliptical action of the Sonoid restores the blood flow by exerting natural circulatory action through damaged blood vessels and tissues. The relief of pain from injuries sustained in sport or from crippling diseases such as arthritis, rheumatism and gout is almost instantaneous, said David Leighton of ^^fcilmahl & Associates in ^^tydney, as he demonstrated the equipment on Raetihi's ultra-distance runner Siggy Bauer at the Waimarino Sport, Health and Fitness Clinic. Siggy Bauer had used the Sonoid vibrator to relieve severe muscle spasms during his epic 1,000 mile recordbreaking run last November and was convinced of its therapeutic qualities. More recently Mike Boit of Kenya had used the same piece of equipment before the Molenberg Mile to correct a 3-year Achilles tendon problem and was amazed to find "instant relief'. John Walker too has Jaeen using the equipment to ^Bod effect for a number of years, claims Mr Leighton. The Sonoid therapeutic vibrator has been available in Australia since 1975 and thousands have been sold across the Tasman. It has received the approval and support of the

Australian Arthritis Council, the Australian Red "Cross, hospitals, physiotherapy clinics, nursing homes, sports clubs as well as other organisations and individuals concerned with maintaining mobility and ensuring a rapid return to active sport or work. . The equipment is of the "do-it-yourself ' type so that even though handicapped in movement it is still possible for the sufferers to operate it when and where required. Another group to benefit are workers whose jobs involve long hours of repetitive work using limited arm and hand movements such as typists, computer operators, mass production technfcians etc ... "their ailments have reached

epidemic proportions in Australia," said Mr David Leighton. "By treating them and other workers incapacitated by strain-type injuries immediately, they can be retained in the workforce instead of being laid off on accident compensation." Mr Leighton is in New Zealand to canvass support from various organisations so that an application can be made to the government for a duty free exemption on this imported piece of therapeutic equipment. The retail cost in Australia is SA290. Siggy Bauer who is convinced of the benefits of the Sonoid vibrator after his own personal experience during and after his 1000mile run, will be acting as an agent for this equipment in New Zealand when negotiations are finalised.
