Ohakune motel changes hands

Ohakune is a long way from the excitement of Ranfurly Shield rugby but the town can now boast that one of their residents was an integral part of a winning 'Shield' side. Graeme Pike, along with his wife Alison and fouryear old daughter Hayley, have recently taken over the Ohakune Court Motel. Originally from Palmerston North, Graeme, playing as a prop for the Kiatoa Club, was a member of the Manawatu Representative side in the late 1970's when the province reigned supreme as National Champions and Shield holders. The couple previously owned and operated their own dairy in Palmerston North for two years before purchasing the Ohakune Court Motel from Des and Cherry Sutton. Although this is the first time they have had their own motel, they |feel that their business ^experience combined with Des and Cherry's assistance initially, will see them through. Both are looking forward eagerly to the ski season not only for business reasons, but also to try their hand at skiing. Graeme is also keen to play club rugby in the Waimarino district and no doubt his. former 'Shield' experience will be welcomed by a local club.
