New Commander takes over

Lieutenant-Commander Ross Sanson is the new commander of HMNZS Irirangi in Waiouru. He took over command earlier this month from LieutenantCommander Alan Peck who has joined HMNZS Canterbury as First Lieutenant. Ross Sanson was born and educated in Wanganui. He joined the Royal New Zealand Navy in 1961 as a radio operator, and, from a Chief Petty Officer, was commissioned as a lieutenant in 1973 after attending a course at the Royal Navy's communication college, HMS Mercury, near Portsmouth in England. He has since served in HMNZS Taranaki and the fisheries protection vessel, HMNZS Inverell. Recently he has been Assistant

Director of Defence Communications in Wellington. Ross, who has served in Waiouru before and has many friends here, is looking forward to his 3year tour of duty. He and his wife Elspeth have two children, Jane, 14 and Robert, 12.
