Waimarino A&P Show this Saturday
The annual Waimarino A&P Show will be held at the showgrounds in Raetihi next Saturday 18 February. A full programme of events throughout the day should once again ensure the support of the Waimarino community for this major event of the year in the rural calendar. Gates open at 0800 and that's when the action starts. Among the many events that should attract spectators to the showground during the day are displays of showjumping, gymnastics, agricultural aircraft, machinery and vehicles, prize sheep, pet lambs, cut-flowers; floral art, prize vegetables, home industry, handicrafts, and cooking. Various equestrian events will be staged with horses and riders coming from JJ^anganui, Palmerston
North, Hunterville and Taihape to compete. The main feature event in this section will be the Table 'A' F.E.I. (Federation Equestrian International) which is being sponsored by Dalgety Crown Travel. In the farming section several prominent breeders will be exhibiting and a new breed of sheep developed by Robin and Alan Scarrow of Raetihi and known as 'Chevlo' will be on display for the first time. Turoa Tumblers will again be performing gymnastics and Wanganui Aero Works will be providing a static display. Well-known local Wanganui Aero Works pilot, McKay George, will land a fixed wing aircraft at the showgrounds and helicopter pilot Lisa Patterson will also be 'dropping in'. The local BMX Club will be staging racing events from 1.00pm throughout the afternoon. Any child with a BMX bike and helmet and wearing long trousers and a long sleeved top can enter for the many age group prizes on payment of a 50 cent entry fee. Among other attractions A & P Show secretary, Mrs Locheen Tod of Raetihi, hopes to be able to organise is a demonstratiop by the
Black Powder Gun Club of Taihape whose members use muzzle-loading firearms. She also hopes that Heavylift Helicopters of T aihape will agree to exhibit their new Iroquois helicopter at the Show. Apart from the featured events there will be the usual side shows, trade exhibits, fun and food stalls, childrens competitions ... etc. Locheen Tod expects there to be a particularly good vegetable and floral section this year. "It's been a very good growing season both for flowers and vegetables and we ought to see some record
results" she said last week ... "providing people bring them in!" Catalogues or 'Show Schedules' can be obtained from BoydS Bookshop, Dalgety Crown or Locheen Tod in Raetihi before Saturday.
