New restaurant for Waiouru
Waiouru 's new restaurant, "Aldo's", is due to open in about three week's time when it will offer a choice of Italian, French and New Zealand dishes and operate a take-away service of Kiwi fare seven days a week. Italian-born Aldo Cesca (pronounced Cheska) and his wife, French born Christine (nee Didier), will be running the 120 seat restaurant with the help of family members and other staff. The Cesca family with daughters Alex and Raffaella and son Luca — Alex was born in France the others in Italy — came to New Zealand about nine years ago when Aldo was brought out by the Codelfa Mining Company from Treviso province in northern Italy to cook for workers on the Tongariro Development Project at Turangi. He stayed for eight years until that massive hydroIelectric scheme was comMeted and most of the italian workers had returned home. He then moved to
Waiouru where he operated the 'A1 Vento' restaurant and take-away bar for about a year before taking on this new business venture specialising in French and Italian cuisine but catering also for less exotic palates.
The new restaurant should prove a popular attraction for travellers passing through Waiouru and provide another welcome gourmet amenity for the Waimarino community.
