Mayors launch flood relief fund appeals

A relief fund for victims of the Southland flooding is being set up by the mayors of Ohakune and Raetihi. Mayor of Ohakune, Mr Bill Taylor, who is also the Waimarino area's civil defence controller, said that donations will be received at the Borough Council offices until the end of February and these would then be sent to the appropriate authority in Southland. Raetihi's mayor, Mr Garrick Workman is setting up a similar relief fund and says that donations can be handed in at the new joint council Administration Centre in Duncan Street.
