RAETIHI HOTEL
l^Tndrew Madden, manager ot the Raetihi Hotel for the last three months, has departed for Auckland, following an unhappy 14month association with the hotel and some of its patrons and 'uninvited guests.' He came originally from Wellington 14 months ago as assistant manager to Peter Thomas and when Peter left Andy took over. It has not been the happiest of experiences, he said ... during his time as manager and assistant manager he has been physically assaulted, hit with a shovel, the bottom bar has been the scene of several fights, mindless violence and damage. It has also been burgled and the hotel has had to employ security guards from time to time. Now seems to be an appropriate time to leave for a less stressful and more 'civilised' job, said Mr Madden who is going to Auckland to "have a look round." His place at Raetihi Hotel has been taken by temporary relieving manager Mr Jim O'Neill from Otaki. Mr O'Neill's previous, hotel experience has included I8/2 years with the Grand in Levin (now the Cobb & Co) and five years as manager of the Railway Hotel in Otaki. He will be returning to Otaki at the end of this month.
