New service available
new passenger/freight rSnl-bus service started operating through the Waimarino last month. Hammond Services of Wanganui which has been running between Wanganui ■ and Pipiriki on the River Road route for the past seven years introduced this new 5-day week service connecting Pipiriki, Raetihi, Ohakune and Wanganui through the Parapara's on 20 January. One 12-seat mini-bus and freight-trailer leaves Wanganui at 0715 each weekday and heads up the River Road to Pipiriki and then carries on through to Raetihi where it arrives about noon. There it meets up with the other 1 2-seater mini-bus and freight-trailer which leaves Wanganui at 0830 to head up the Parapara Road to
Raetihi (Dowman's Discounter) and Ohakune (Cedar Service Station). Passengers and freight are exchanged at Raetihi at 12.30 before both buses continue their Wanganui-Waimarino-Wanganui circuit. The service that has come up the River Road returns
via the Parapara Road to arrive back in Wanganui about 2. 1 5pm. The service running in the opposite direction returns to Wanganui via Pipiriki arriving at about 3.30pm. The two runs are being operated by father and son team John and Blair Hammond.
