L.P.G. now available locally

Just before Christmas Reynolds Motors of Ohakune completed their L. P.G. (Liquid Petroleum Gas) supply installation — a first for this region. With many motorists considering changes to alternative fuels, Reynolds Motors felt they had to seriously consider how they could play a part, said

managipg director Trevor Reynolds. "After looking closely at the two major alternative fuels, CNG and LPG, the choice was clearly for LPG" said Mr Reynolds. "For a start, we're relatively isolated in the Waimarino. On 50 litres of GNG the average vehicle can travel 150 kilometres. On 50

litres of LPG the average vehicle can travel 350 kilometres. While there is a marginal extra cost per kilometre with LPG, we felt this was more than compensated for by the much lower power drop-off with LPG compared to CNG. LPG is 85% as efficient as gasoline while CNG is only 60% as efficient" he explained. Furthermore, there are plans afoot to strip CNG of up to another 25% of its calorific value. For all that, use of either LPG or CNG markedly reduces the running costs on any vehicle. Part of government encouragement for vehicle owners to change to alternative fuels is the availability of low interest, no deposit loans. These loans are applied for through the installer and your own bank. Calculations are based on the estimated savings for the user and the loan is repaid over tl^^ period it takes for the user^B save the installation cost through reduced vehicle running costs. Some users have been able to achieve payback periods of 12 months and less for the $1 lOO or so installation cost. Reynolds Motors have staff trained in the installation and servicing of the gas conversion kits which are covered by a guarantee. Reynold's garage at Raetihi is also, authorised to issue ~ alternative fuel warrants of fitness. The conversion equipment has a very long life and can be transferred from an existing vehicle to another one for about $400. Reynolds have a 7,^^ litre L.P.G. storage tanl^B their Ohakune garage. Owners of LPG tanks for cooking and heating use can also refill those from the supply installation. Tanks as small as 1 .5kg can be filled at - the pump.
